Myocarditis

Myocarditis is the inflammation of the myocardium, which enlarges and weakens the heart, creates scar tissue, and forces it to work harder to pump blood. Most commonly a viral cause, but can also be due to bacteria, cancer, and autoimmune (giant cell myocarditis).

It presents with:

• Chest pain

• SOBOE

• Orthopnoea

• Palpitations

Investigations to do include an ECG and Echo.

Management usually includes supportive care ± treatment of the underlying cause.
