Pharyngitis

Causes:

  • Viral - Rhinoviruses, EBV, CMV, Adenoviruses, Enteroviruses

  • Bacterial - Group A Strep


Presentation:

  • Sore throat

  • Dysphagia/Odynophagia

  • Swollen tonsils

  • Cervical lymphadenopathy

  • Palatal petechiae

Management:

  • Paracetamol, Throat lozenges

  • Phenoxymethylpenicillin (Pen V) - Clarithromycin If pen allergic/intolerant
