Tinnitus

Described as a Ringing, Buzzing, Hissing, or Humming noise. Red flags of it are Unilateral, Pulsatile, Asymmetrical HL, Vertigo, Neurological symptoms. It's classified into:

  • Primary - No identifiable cause and often occurs with SNHL

  • Secondary tinnitus - Identifiable cause, which includes:

    • Noise exposure

    • Medications

    • Acoustic neuroma

    • MS


Investigations:

  • Bloods – FBC, Glucose, TSH, Lipids

  • Examination – Otoscopy, Audiometry, BP, CNs


Management - Sound enrichment, Relaxation/Stress reduction techniques, Hearing therapy and aids
