Calcium binds to albumin to be transported in the blood, so its levels can be affected by the amount of albumin. To overcome this, a corrected calcium level has to be measured:

  • + 0.1 mmol/L to Ca level for every 4g/L that albumin is below 40g/L - Opposite for raised albumin


Alternative is Corrected Ca = Ca + 0.02 x (40 - Albumin)
