EOLC Medications

Pain

• Morphine (1st line)

  • SEs - constipation, drowsiness, N+V, dry mouth

  • Divide total dose by 2 if converting from Oral to SC

  • Give 1/6 - 1/10 of total dose for breakthrough pain

    
    

• Diamorphine

• Oxycodone

  • Useful in patients who have renal impairment

• Alfentanyl

Breathlessness

• Therapeutic oxygen

• Morphine

• Midazolam

Nausea and Vomiting

• Levomepromazine

• Cyclizine

• Haloperidol

• Metoclopramide

Restlessness and Confusion

• Midazolam

• Haloperidol

• Levomepromazine

Secretions

• Sit the patient up

• Hyoscine butylbromide (i.e. Buscopan)

• Hyoscine hydrobromide

• Glycopyrronium
