Functional Neurological Disorders
Functional neurological disorder is where a patient experiences neurological symptoms that aren’t associated with an organic cause. These symptoms include:
Limb weakness
Blackouts
Movement disorders e.g. tremors, dystonia, myoclonus
Sensory dysfunction
Loss of/Double vision
Dysarthria
Differentials - MS, Parkinson’s, Myasthenia Gravis
Investigations:
History and examination
Investigations to exclude organic causes
Management - MDT approach and symptomatic relief
