Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is associated with reduced activity in the frontal lobe. The 3 main characteristics of it are:
Hyperactivity (restless, fidgety)
Impulsivity
Inattention – Lack of sustained attention and concentration (distractible)
ADHD should be suspected if the patient has 6+ inattention symptoms and/or 6+ hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms.
Management
Parent training on behavioural management - 1st line
Medical options
CNS Stimulants – Methylphenidate, Dexamphetamine (Improve activity in the frontal lobe)
Non-stimulants – Atomoxetine
