Deliberate Self-harm, Overdose, and Suicide
Self-harm is any act of self-poisoning or self-injury, irrespective of motivation or purpose. It commonly presents with cutting, scratching or burning, and sometimes head-banging. It's often associated with trauma, particularly abuse.
The reasons why one does it are variable, but can include:
Managing feeling of dissociation and distress
Release tension
Punish self or others
Coping strategy
